Parents around the world are reinventing education by opening Acton Academies. Are you ready to join the revolution?

My journey to Acton Academy started after designing Workspace, a learning environment for families wanting to create and implement personalized learning for children.  After visiting Acton HQ in Austin and reading Laura Sandefer’s book, Courage to Grow, I decided that Acton Academy would make a wonderful addition to Workspace. Including a micro-school allows working families to combine a state-of-the-art pedagogy with all the benefits and resources at Workspace.

If you desire your children to have agency and to be self-directed in their lives, they need to be in the driver’s seat of their education, not waiting for an adult to give them constant direction.  The brilliance in the program lies in setting up the covenants between the learners, the parents, and the guides so that the learner community can act independently and the guide acts to inspire and hold learners accountable.

Acton Academy is the perfect framework for setting up a learner-driven community.  The rigorous pedagogy itself has been tailored to accommodate the different learning needs of the community.  Not only do the learners learn how to learn for themselves, how to “be” in a group and participate effectively in a collaborative effort, but also, they practice doing what is required to get a job done on their own initiative.  It is a mix of independent work and project-based learning that is designed to maximize collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. Learners are challenged to find a calling and to consistently work to their best ability, to be a leader and to take a position.

I am excited to offer Acton Academy to our line up of offerings to the community, and I encourage you to find out more about it. Come in and meet our great guides and have a tour of Workspace.

Our Promises to your Child

He or she will:

  • Begin a Hero’s Journey.
  • Learn to be a curious, independent, lifelong learner.
  • Develop a deep respect for economic, political and religious freedoms.
  • Cherish the arts, wonders of the physical world and the mysteries of life on Earth.
  • Discover his or her most precious gifts and learn to use them to solve difficult problems.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe each child has a gift that can change the world in a profound way.
  • We believe in a closely connected family of lifelong learners.
  • We believe in learning by knowing, learning by doing and learning by being.
  • We believe in economic, religious, and political freedom.

Embracing rigor is part of saying ‘yes’ to a Hero’s Journey. Deep learning brings a special sense of joy, but the mastery required for a Hero’s Journey goes even further, requiring commitment, discipline and hard work towards a worthy goal.
